New Market & Harrissonburg, Virginia
I think the most interesting thing about New Market, Virginia is the history here. It’s a small town, not far from Harrisonburg, Virginia. We visited a local museum in New Market, which was also a battlefield site during the civil war.
The house below was a family farm that had the battle came into their fields. The home immediately became a hospital for the many wounded.
Another interesting story was that the military academy that was about 30 miles away was called into active duty to assist in the war between the North and the South. The military students ages ranged from 15 to 25 years. 257 students were called to join the war. When running through the mud many lost their shoes, thus the name field of the lost shoes came to be. They also made a movie called the field of lost shoes. The link below has more interesting information.
