Nashville, Hohenwald & Natchez Trace Parkway. Surrounding Areas
We went to two parks with the dogs. Centennial park and Parthenon park. Both were beautiful with interesting history. Didn’t get to go inside the Parthenon museum like we wanted but we had a good time walking the dogs and enjoying the sights.
On our second visit to Nashville, we actually got to do all the things that we saw on our way out of Nashville on our first visit. We enjoyed a backstage tour of the Grand Ole Opry, the Madame Tussaud’s wax museum, had lunch at the Paula Deen restaurant.
After visiting the Opry Mill area, we headed to downtown Broadway. This the honky tonk area, and gets pretty rowdy at night, so it was better to do a day visit (at least for us). We visited the famous “Tootsies on Broadway” where many country artists got their start, like Loretta Lynn, Charley Pride, Patsy Cline and more.. We enjoyed listening to some country music, and then went walking through the area. Almost every bar had a band playing. We walked to the waterfront then made our way back to the crowds. We found another bar that was less rowdy, and enjoyed listening to another country singer.
We were staying an hour away at a Thousand Trails campground called the Natchez Trail, which is located close to the Natchez Trace Parkway, a beautiful drive. We stopped at the burial site of Meriweather Lewis, of the Lewis and Clark expedition. We were able to walk part of the Natchez Trail, which had many informational signs along the way. We also drive to an old Mine when driving through the Parkway. We stopped by a beautiful waterfall and an old Tobacco drying shack, close to a Tobacco field we couldn’t find after walking a mile, we finally turned back. There were many other stops along the way. We took the dogs, so they got lots of walking in, us too!
Back at the campground we were able to rent kayaks and go out on the lake. It was a beautiful day and we saw lots of beautiful birds and fish jumping. We enjoyed a very nice and a relaxing time on the water.
This was one of our favorite campgrounds. It was huge, with a big red barn where they had movies in the evening (more for kids). A county store with a little cafe’. I enjoyed some authentic sweet tea for the second time. There was a band playing music one night and multiple activities for all ages throughout our stay. .
We also found the best Mexican restaurant in a town near by, it was authentic and fresh. Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed the many sites and adventures.
