Portland, Maine

Portland, Maine was only an hour and a half away from were we were staying. Boston, Salem and Rhode Island were an hour or less. We definitely got lucky with our location, which was located near a cute little town named Amesbury. 

We visited Fort Williams and the Headlight Lighthouse. It was another drizzly day and on the cool side, but we enjoyed exploring the area. The dogs got a good walk, and even got to run with Shane while I took pictures and videos. 

The lighthouse is located in Cape Elizabeth, Maine and was built in 1790. There’s an interesting history about the lighthouse.

We drove through Portland, Maine but only took a brief walk and visited one shop. I had to get a couple sovereigns. 😉






























We finally tried a lobster roll, it was delicious but cost $35

We arrived in Port Orange, Florida Thursday February 23rd. I immediately didn’t like the RV park, and I still don’t. It’s old and run down with a train track that runs right behind the park, trains run all hours… they’re insanely loud! On a good note, I found a place to get a massage and decided to try a hymilan salt stone massage. It was wonderful, so relaxing!!! I highly recommend trying one. Once I was finished, Shane and I got lunch from Panera, yum! And then we found a great dog park for the dogs to play-in, and socialize. Afterwards, we decided to explore the beach front areas close to Port Orange, where we’re staying.  We stumbled upon Ponce Inlet while looking for a dog friendly beach.We thought we’d get to drive onto the beach in Daytona. Since we weren’t seeing anything, we headed for a lighthouse that was supposed to be close by. That’s when we discovered a park with a river area for dogs. Galveston, Texas

We loved this little island. It’s on the Gulf Coast and has so much character and charm. The history has been enlightening, and unfortunately, so much of it tragic. It’s definitely been an experience.  This is were Juneteenth originated. It was here on June 19th 1865  that the Union Army, General Gordon Granger and 2,000 federal troops arrived to formally inform the enslaved  Black and African American people (about a quarter million) that the Emancipation Proclamation has freed them.  January 1, 1863 was the day Lincoln proclaimed the end of slavery. It took over 2 years to get that information to Texas and finally to Galveston, Texas. This was primarily due to travel time since Texas was so big. Mail and verbal communication during the time period had to be delivered by horseback, wagon or on foot.  The island of Galveston Texas belonged to Mexico, then Spain, then Mexico after they defeated Spain. NASA Houston, Texas

We both enjoyed exploring the Houston Space Center, also known as NASA. We got to view the area where they prepare for space flight. We were able to go inside the space shuttle, Endeavor. Got to view the Atlas Rocket up close and so much more. We spent hours here. Highly recommend visiting, if in the area.  Guided Tour of the Training Facilities                   Rocket Warehouse, over 300 feet long.                             Showering in Space!
