Cave City, Kentucky -The Mammoth Caves

Image
We were so happy with our choice when visiting Kentucky. We stayed in Cave city, which is about 10 minutes away from Mammoth Caves.  We loved exploring the caves and enjoyed walking through the hiking trail with the dogs, which was along the Appalachian Mountains —I didn’t know that until Shane glued me in. We also took some Dinosaur pictures in the town of cave city for the grandkids. Only a two night stay but we made the most of it.  Fun Fact: The Mammoth Caves are the oldest in the world and cover 400 miles. There’s many ways to explore the caves. A basic tour like we did, or other tours ranging from 2-6 hours. Sharing a link of interesting information about Mammoth Caves.😊 https://www.kentuckytourism.com/mammoth-cave/history-heritage/african-american-heritage/mammoth-cave-national-park                                            West side Appalachian Mountains            Enjoying a walk through the Appalachian Mountains  Mammoth Caves

New Castle, Indiana

We stayed at a retreat campground called Cornerstone, in New Castle, Indiana. It was a really nice campground.  We arrived to a wedding reception on the grounds so it was a little noisy. But the next day was good, nice and quiet. Shane went to Indianapolis speedway to watch the qualifications for next weekends race. He really enjoyed his adventure. I stayed back with the dogs and spent my day cleaning and painting (my newest activity).  We didn’t do much more than relax here, as we did in Ohio. We finally feel like we’ve actually been camping, instead of running around seeing as much as possible. Overall a great experience in Indiana.

Carrollton, Ohio

We visited Carrollton Ohio for three days. For two days, we just rested and enjoyed the campground. It was a beautiful area and we (almost) had the campground to ourselves, it was very quiet and peaceful and the weather was perfect. For the first time, we built a fire and roasted marshmallows for S’more.  On our last day, we went to visit Shane’s friend and his wife. They were just 20 minutes away. We enjoyed a nice  dinner outside, and really good conversation. They were very nice people. We also got to see baby foxes that they are caring for until they can be released back into the wild.  They also had alpacas, horses and dogs. We were able to visit with all the animals and learn more about the area. It’s much cheaper for land in Ohio and it’s such a gorgeous area.  Overall, a lovely visit to Ohio and a nice drive through on our way to Indiana. Took some pictures of the landscape and of our visit to Jim and Tracy’s.  Six weeks old baby Foxes     Alpacas  Cool Bridge Art  Very cool Bar
