Flying (Simulated) Experience Orlando, Florida

 We were fortunate to enjoy the experience of flying a Jet plane in a simulator. My cousin, Barb teaches pilots using a simulator, and was able to set up a session for us. Both Shane and I got to fly the plane around New York. He got to land it twice and co pilot with Jack, Barbs husband and a retired pilot. Shane had a blast! Good adrenaline fill in since he hasn’t been racing for awhile. 

I took multiple videos but they were so long that I could only upload a couple. You can still get a pretty good sense of the experience. 

We went out to dinner afterwards and enjoyed good food and conversation with Jack and Barb. We really enjoy spending time with them. They are both lovely people.

Shane’s landing scores below. He did really good, even better than some of the student pilots, Barb said. He got to experience two landings at two airports in New York. Pretty cool! We now know the lay out of New York, that’ll help us navigate when we get there next month.

We arrived in Port Orange, Florida Thursday February 23rd. I immediately didn’t like the RV park, and I still don’t. It’s old and run down with a train track that runs right behind the park, trains run all hours… they’re insanely loud! On a good note, I found a place to get a massage and decided to try a hymilan salt stone massage. It was wonderful, so relaxing!!! I highly recommend trying one. Once I was finished, Shane and I got lunch from Panera, yum! And then we found a great dog park for the dogs to play-in, and socialize. Afterwards, we decided to explore the beach front areas close to Port Orange, where we’re staying.  We stumbled upon Ponce Inlet while looking for a dog friendly beach.We thought we’d get to drive onto the beach in Daytona. Galveston, Texas

We loved this little island. It’s on the Gulf Coast and has so much character and charm. The history has been enlightening, and unfortunately, so much of it tragic. It’s definitely been an experience.  This is were Juneteenth originated. It was here on June 19th 1865  that the Union Army, General Gordon Granger and 2,000 federal troops arrived to formally inform the enslaved  Black and African American people (about a quarter million) that the Emancipation Proclamation has freed them.  January 1, 1863 was the day Lincoln proclaimed the end of slavery. It took over 2 years to get that information to Texas and finally to Galveston, Texas. This was primarily due to travel time since Texas was so big. Mail and verbal communication during the time period had to be delivered by horseback, wagon or on foot.  The island of Galveston Texas belonged to Mexico, then Spain, then Mexico after they defeated Spain. NASA Houston, Texas

We both enjoyed exploring the Houston Space Center, also known as NASA. We got to view the area where they prepare for space flight. We were able to go inside the space shuttle, Endeavor. Got to view the Atlas Rocket up close and so much more. We spent hours here. Highly recommend visiting, if in the area.  Guided Tour of the Training Facilities                   Rocket Warehouse, over 300 feet long.                             Showering in Space!
